Play date

Augie has quite the not-so-secret admirer in his class this year. Rumor has it that she wakes up first thing in the morning talking about Augie, rejoices when she sees him in class, and even names her art projects after her beloved Augie. So when her mom asked if we would be interested in a play date, that was one request we knew that we couldn't turn down.
The two toddlers had a wonderful time of playing, hugging, sliding, swinging, and snacking. So much fun was had by all that the sweet little hostess couldn't muster the energy to say awake long enough to wish her beloved Augie goodbye.

Weekend

August is one happy little boy. After a couple of busy weeks of off and on travel, he had his Papa all to himself this weekend. And what a playful weekend it was.

Oh Brolly

August received a Little People airport from Santa Clause this past Christmas. Though he hasn't quite shown much interest in playing with his 'sets' of toys yet, he has definitely grown attached to one particular accessory. The poor little miniature umbrella has yet to assume it's duty at the picnic table for more than a few minutes at a time. From the minute August discovered that it was removable, it has been his faithful little companion inside and out. Because as we all know, it's best to always be prepared.

what's that, you say it's sunny outside?

well good thing I have my trusty umbrella!

Where there is sand, bubbles are sure to follow.

Embrace the Camera

We were both a little spoiled with all of the snuggles this past week. I'm glad he's finally on the mend, but I'm not in a hurry for the sweet cuddling to go away.

The Great Exfoliant

We've had a streak of really gorgeous days lately. It's actually hard to believe that we are supposed to be in the dead of winter. Needless to say, we try to spend a good portion of our day in the great outdoors. A couple of weeks ago August and I were out playing on the balcony when he suddenly decided he needed to take a shower. of sand.

Heavy Lifting

Before the great illness of 2012 hit, Augie displayed some of his mad weight lifting skills for the camera. We have no idea where he learned how to do this, but he has quite impressive form for a baby.

sicker.

As the week went on, our poor little Augie only got sicker. After 2 ER visits, 2 mornings with Dr.C, 3 rounds of chest x-rays, 3 different mega-antibiotics, and numerous nebulizer treatments and chest percussions, we're finally starting to see glimpses of toddler-life again. The official diagnosis is a primarily illness of RSV bronchiolitis with a stubborn secondary infection that likes to bounce from lung to lung.
Basically, our poor baby is super sick. It was definitely a scary, stressful week of trying to care for  our high-fevered, lethargic, labored-breathing little Augie.  Oh, and I failed to mention that Kevin flew out to DC early on Tuesday. But I'm happy to report that as of Friday, he finally felt well enough to stand up, walk around a little bit, and eat a few bites of food. And as soon as his Papa hit the door Friday night, he had a few minutes of acting like a complete pint-sized banshee before it was time to melt into the couch again.

sick.

I should have known. August doesn't sleep until 9:30 in the morning, ever. It should have been an indicator. In the quick span of 24 hours, Augie went from seemingly perfectly healthy to downright miserable with bacterial pneumonia. Poor little guy doesn't feel well at all. For now our days are spent snuggling on the couch, watching movies on the ipad, while I analyze his every single breath. Hopefully he will perk up soon and get the sparkle back in his pretty blue eyes.

Weekend

We enjoyed a nice weekend at home. There was nothing too exciting or too dramatic to report, just a nice, moderately productive time together. And thankfully it's continuing through today as Kevin has the day off.

a Healthy Addiction

It's no secret that I lack self-control when it comes to purchases for August. I can justify buying him just about anything, which is incredibly dangerous considering the kid doesn't even ask for things yet! Books are definitely my biggest weakness. But considering that reading through a large portion of our home library has been part of our daily routine for the past 23 months, I can easily justify a new purchase. August was gifted with several new additions to his collection for Christmas, but of course when I came across the Barnes and Noble after Christmas sale, I knew I couldn't pass it up. I only got slightly carried away.
Before Christmas we were on the verge of outgrowing our basket system in the living room, and by January we knew we needed some new organization. So Kevin got to work, with some help from August, modifying the bottom of our two existing built-in shelves to display Augie's books. Needless to say he loves being able to see all of his books at once, and has even rediscovered some old favorites. I didn't think however that he would want to plop down right there on the floor to read them, I'm predicting that Lilly dog is about to lose custody of her bed.

thank you book sale!
