week 1: a New Year

Thursday January 1st- Wednesday January 7th

In an attempt to keep better documentation of our year, as well as pick up the 'real' camera more often, I'm going to try to bring life to this little old blog again.

That being said, here are some snippets from our first week of the year. This week saw the tail end of our Christmas vacation, as well as the first real cold snap of the year.

Merry Christmas!

Wishing you and yours, a very Merry Christmas

Baby's First Cereal

At five and a half months, I figured it was time to let Otis get a taste for real food...well, baby cereal. He  very attentively watches us eat our meals, and seems to lean in as if he's going to steal a bite. However, I have a feeling he's smarter than I give him credit for. He eagerly welcomed the first few spooned bites  that I sent his way, even grabbing my hand to help direct it towards his mouth. But every attempt that followed was spit out in quite the drawn-out, dramatic fashion. And after that, I was met with the most dead-pan look of rejection that I've ever received from an infant. He wasn't buying my airplane sounds and fictional tales of 'yummy' for a second longer. Perhaps we'll try again in a few weeks.

Otis Goes to the Ranch

While my mom was in town recently, we decided to pay a visit to my extended family's ranch. Kevin had August for the day, so it was a rare opportunity to just take Otis along for the trip. It was definitely the quietest visit I've ever had there. We enjoyed a nice lunch with my Aunt and Uncle at their house, before heading over to the 'big house' where we reminisced among Mama T's belongings, and collected a few mementos to remember her by. Of course an infant's first trip to the ranch wouldn't be complete without the obligatory 'middle of the road' photo.

VBS

Augie recently attended a week long Vacation Bible School at his old preschool. I was so happy to find a rare program that accepted three year olds, as I knew he would enjoy it. Sure enough, he absolutely loved his 'Bible Class', and still asks if he can go back. He sings the songs and talks about the lessons he learned everyday.
On the last day, they held a little outdoor party for all of the families. Since my mom was in town and Kevin was taking the day off, we all headed up there for the festivities. There was a hot dog lunch, followed by outdoor water slide fun, and of course snow cones and watermelon. A fun time was had by all, we're so thankful that he had the opportunity to attend.

crazy hair/hat day, mismatched day, and surfs up day

Sea World 2.0

After hearing about our previous fun adventure to Sea World,  Kevin decided that he would like to join us for another little adventure down to San Antonio. So he took a Monday off of work, and we head down there for a day full of fun. It was only slightly more crowded than our last visit, and maybe a tad bit warmer, but it was definitely just as much fun for us all. August is such a fun age for the park, and Otis is such an easy-going baby, we're hoping line up a few more trips with friends and family before the end of the year.
