Busy, Busy

The day before we left for our mini-beach excursion, Kevin found out that his week at home would be turning into a three state, marathon week of travel. At about the exact same time, my work load hit its most ridiculously swamped level yet. With Kevin being gone, and August being out of school for a couple of weeks, I knew there was absolutely no way I would survive the week without heading up to my parent's house for help. I'm so thankful that my mom was able to watch August every day while I locked myself to my computer. Augie and Momo had a wonderful time together playing, snuggling, and watching plenty of Dora. I was even able to break away for an occasional bit of fun out as well. It was a nice, albeit crazy week for all of us.

Beach Day

Last weekend we made a special trip down to Corpus Christi to spend a day on the beach. We look forward to our great Gupton family beach vacations every summer, but this year we have a scheduling conflict that prevents us from joining in the fun. However, we knew we needed to get our little guy to the coast before summer hit in full force.
We drove down to Kevin's parents house, where his mom and sister joined us for the fun. We couldn't have enjoyed a better day with beautiful weather, minimal crowds, and an all around perfectly relaxing time. August would have spent every minute of the 5 hours out in the water had we not mandated a couple of breaks. I guess we just need to figure out the perfect destination that will allow him to be a ski bum in the winter, and a beach bum in the summer. We're thinking west coast...
While we daydream of more adventures, enjoy a gratuitous amount of photos from our day in the sun.

Embrace the Camera

Hard to believe Augie's first year of pre-school is already over! Let's compare how we've aged over the past 8 months, shall we?

Last day of preschool: May 2012

Weekend*

We enjoyed a nice, relaxing weekend at home for Mother's day. We're not big on celebrating holidays around here. Usually we designate the day with an * to denote that it's slightly more special than the average, but not a full fledged religious holiday or anything.
In honor of the occasion, or just because it was another gorgeous weekend here in the ATX, we spent our time with waffles on the balcony, some pillow filled-snuggles, movies in bed, and lots of backyard construction. My super handy husband and his little helper worked hard to construct a new play contraption in our back yard...well until the allure of dancing and bubbles pulled the adorable assistant away. Phase one is almost complete, I can't wait to see the final product.
And on Sunday we marked the day with more bubbles and construction, donuts with sprinkles, and a wonderful visit to a new church. All in all it was a splendid weekend, and I count myself doubly blessed to have two amazing guys that help to make me one happy mommy.

Augie 'made' this at school

klru Birthday Party

Our local PBS station held a 50th birthday party downtown this past weekend. They closed off a couple of blocks of the second street district in order to make room for several kid-friendly tents featuring stories, crafts, photo booths, and concerts. Considering a majority of the characters in attendance serve as early morning babysitters in our house, we figured it would be a good excuse to walk down and check out all of the commotion. August was still a bit young for the majority of the activities, but he enjoyed people watching and costumed character viewing...from a distance of course.

we capped off the adventure with a brief detour through the Liz Carpenter fountain on the walk back home.
