The Streaker

Every evening after his bath, we bring August back to the living room to begin the wind down ritual. But as of late, he's given us a bit of a chase as we try to put his diaper and pajamas on. Apparently there's something quite liberating about romping around naked on the couch for a few minutes.

Mealtime

August loves to eat, and thankfully is a great eater...for the most part. Berries of all varieties are his current favorites. He also loves to feed himself, and has been honing his utensil skills of late. This results in a very messy, albeit entertaining mealtime.

Cupcakes + Donuts = Deliciousness

In one of my daily scouring of blogs last week, I came across this fantastic site of a food photographer/baker. In one of her posts, she had the most irresistable photos of cupcakes topped with mini-donuts. Before even messaging the site over to Kevin, I started making our grocery list. So in a joint effort one evening, we did our best to recreate these badboys. Let me just say, they were amazing. But also super sweet and highly caffeinated, so definitely more of  a morning/mid-day treat unless you plan on skipping a night's sleep. The only downside is that with Kevin being gone for the week, Augie's sitter and I had a heck of a time trying to eat the half batch ourselves. In the end the cupcakes won, but we made a valiant effort.

He's a great cook, but the mess...

Brunch in San Marcos

Our brunch buddies, the Sprads, had the idea to shake things up a bit this past weekend by heading down to San Marcos to eat. So we all loaded up and made the short trek south to check out the delicious fare down at the Root Cellar. After gorging on waffles, quiche, and coffee, we decided to wander around downtown, and happened upon a Texas Swing Festival. Not being ones to pass up a potential good time (or photo opp), we took a short stroll through the courthouse grounds to check out the excitement. In the typical trappings of a small town Texas festival, it did not disappoint. There were blacksmiths, horses, show dogs, gordita booths, geriatric performers, kids in costume, and of course loads of country-made crafts. After our brief detour through the festival, we stopped by the outlets because what trip to San Marcos is complete without grabbing a good deal (or 3).

a 'Playroom'

We live in a small condo in our ideal location. While we dream of moving to a house with a large playroom, a dedicated office/creative space, and a large backyard, that's not feasible for our family at this time. So for now we choose to trade square footage for our 1200 sq.ft. + small back patio abode near downtown.
Don't get me wrong, I love our home, it's just not laid out so efficiently for life with a 15 month old. We essentially only use one level for sleeping and storage, while the other floor is where we do all of our day- to- day living. I'd love to do more playing in Augie's room, but realistically, we spend most of our time in the brighter, slightly more spacious, 'great room'. And throughout the day, we do way more playing in this space than any other activity. With this reality, we needed to figure out a more efficient way of corral-ing all of the toddler toys our son has amassed while still giving all of us room to stretch out.
With the purchase of a larger rug, shoving our small dining table against the wall, rearranging two accessory pieces of furniture, and designating two sliding, storage baskets for smaller toys under the couch, we've created the perfect play space. Allowing us to reclaim the living space without sacrificing too much of our grown-up aesthetic. And in the event that we have friends over, we will just relocate the toys back into Augie's room, pull the table from the wall, add a couple more chairs, and we have our dining room back.

Mother's Day!

We celebrated a very nice, low key mother's day this year. I slept in late and didn't feel an ounce of guilt over it either! I wore my comfy clothes all day and didn't sport a lick of makeup either. Kevin ran all of the errands for us, August took a nice long nap, and then we just played all afternoon! We got to pull out the sidewalk chalk for the first time, practiced our bubble blowing skills, took the tricycle for a few laps, and even tested out the new baby pool that daddy brought home. Of course there was a beautiful card that was so proudly embellished, much cleaner than last year's efforts I must add. It was a wonderful, relaxing end to a busy few weeks, and I loved spending it at home with my boys.

Reunited

and it feels so good...

August and I had an awfully lonely week last week. We returned from our Washington trip on Sunday night, and Kevin turned around and left for a week in Florida the following morning while Lilly and Daphne spent another week vacationing down in Floresville with their canine aunt Trixie. Finally, the three of us were able to make a day trip down to Kevin's parents yesterday to go pick up the rest of our family. While we all enjoyed our time away, it's so nice to have our family of 5 under one roof again!
