Labor Day

We decided to treat Labor Day weekend as our one last hurrah of summer. Augie's school and gymnastics were starting the following week, and Kevin's travel schedule was about to kick into full gear. So naturally we decided a long weekend spent relaxing, poolside, at my parent's house was just what our family needed. There was tons of playing, loads of water fun, movie watching, antiquing, a trip to Trader Joe's, stunt plane gawking, and some epic playground visits. August was introduced to the tire swing, and how fun it is to spin around to the count of ten, and then attempt to take off on a dizzying run. Let's just say, if there is a tire swing anywhere within his periphery, we HAVE to stop and go for a spin now. The weekend really was a perfect way to officially bid adieu to summer...though obviously not to the heat.

Lake People

Since before August was born, our part of the region has been in a particularly disastrous drought. There hasn't been much water in the lakes to allow for much recreational fun outside of small personal flotation for a few years. Kevin's poor little Laser sailboat hasn't even seen the water in at least as many years. So when a couple of our friends texted us late one night with an invitation to join them and their parents out on a local lake for a few hours of fun, we didn't hesitate to join them. August was quite impressed with his first experience out on the open water, and confidently steered the boat towards all of the defenseless sailboats like a seasoned pro. After our brief tour, there was an impromptu dip in the water for most parties, and a hike back up to the cute little cottage for fun feast of weekend leftovers. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon with friends.

On the Farm

One of Augie's little buddies is fortunate enough to live on a large piece of property just outside of town. Luckily for us, his parents love sharing their space with friends. Better yet, they happen to be gifted with great party throwing abilities. So it goes without saying, when the invitation for a special second birthday party arrived in the mail, we didn't hesitate to rsvp. True to form, it did not disappoint. There was a farm baby petting zoo, pony rides, homemade cupcakes, an ice cream bar, and of course pool complete with waterfalls for jumping over. A good time was definitely had by all.

of course our gift needed to fit the theme!

Super Friend

We are big fans of Sesame Street around this house. It comes on at 7 in the morning here in Austin. It's as crucial of an element for a successful morning wake up routine as our giant cups of delectably dark coffee. Yes we love Elmo, but Super Grover is really growing in the ranks lately. I'm not going to argue, he's always been one of my favorites. So as a reward for completing his swim class this summer, August received a talking Super Grover. You can judge for yourself whether it was a hit.

Bounce

Summertime around here can be miserably hot. We do our best to spend as much time outdoors as possible, but we're usually pretty limited to the early mornings and late evenings. That small of a window doesn't allow for too much of an energy burn for the younger crowd. Sometimes we can get creative indoors, but for the most part, our time spent inside can get a bit stale. For August, he just decided to take the opportunity to perfect his couch bouncing routine. Our poor, poor couch.
