We Have a Climber

Lord help us all.

With no regard for man or beast, he spends his entire afternoon thrusting himself onto our giant leather playground. And when he's had enough of pacing from end to end, he uses the arms to position himself for a launch onto the side table and then the lamp, or least favorable, the floor. Thankfully I have been there to catch and brace every backwards freefall. But I know that one of these days my flying save will be just a few seconds too late. Then perhaps he will learn that climbing isn't all that it's cracked up to be?

Afternoons

This is what the scene typically looks like if I attempt to get any work or internet surfing accomplished in the afternoon. A vocal little helper plotting his ascent while grabbing at my ankles.

The New 'IT' product

You may not have heard, but apparently the hot new styling product for your hair is yogurt. Specifically Stonyfield Yobaby Meals. August is such a little trendsetter.

Smash Cake Round 2

When we were in Floresville, Augie's Pappy bought a large chocolate/cream cheese cake for celebrating Kevin's birthday, and a small carrot cake cupcake for August. Unfortunately the little guy never stayed awake long enough to join in the celebrations. So once we made it home and unpacked, we let him partake in birthday cake celebration #2. This solo-party had a much more entertaining outcome than the previous effort.

Another visit to Floresville

The day after August's party, Kevin flew off to Virginia for work. He got home late on a Thursday, and we woke up the next day only to pack up and leave again. This time, we headed down to Corpus Christi via Floresville to attend a winging ceremony for Kevin's cousin Shawn. We quickly unpacked our car and the dogs, changed clothes, and loaded up into Kevin's parent's suburban for the family trek down to Corpus. The ceremony was nice, and we thoroughly enjoyed the mini-reception afterwards with several other members of the extended family. Once the car full loaded up on free cappuccino-esque concotions, we loaded back up once again for the trip to Floresville. Thankfully the rest of the weekend was a much slower paced time full of eating, relaxing, and a bit of park playing with the cousins.

Augie's First Birthday Party!

Being August's birthday, we HAD to throw a shin-dig to celebrate our little man's monumental first year! All of our family members live out of the area, so our Austin 'family' came over to join in the festivities. We are the first of our friends to start a family, so we had the fun challenge of creating an adult friendly 1st Birthday. In typical fashion, we wanted to keep it low-key yet festive...just like ourselves. :) With some simple supplies of cardstock, string, ribbon, glue, balloons, and some pinwheels, we were able to create a homemade celebration. I started punching circles and gluing together paper garlands, and the 'Happy Birthday August!' banner a couple of weeks in advance, while my dear Kevin spent countless hours untangling them just days before the party. We were able to use them to line both sides of the stairwell, as well as on the window over the cake display, and to string across the entertainment center. The biggest attraction was by far the photo booth that Kevin created in one of the corners of our living room. My parents sent us a remote control trigger for my camera that we set up on a tripod, and we were able to catch a pic of everyone who came. As for food, we just laid out some wholesome snacks of vegetables, crackers, dips, and cheeses for everyone to nibble. While for drinks, Kevin made a refreshing punch, and we had plenty of everyone's favorite brews chilling in our beverage stand on the balcony. Finally, what party isn't complete without a birthday cake! After going back and forth, we decided to have Sugar Mama's Bakeshop create a big version for the adults, while Kevin made some miniature cupcakes, and a 6" slightly more nutritious 'smash cake' for August. As expected, our little man wasn't too interested in the cake. He was really attracted to the flame on the candle, but just rubbed his hands in the icing a tiny bit, and barely poked at the cake. We should have just given him a pile of dirt as he later discovered our tree planters on the balcony, and proceeded to consume and 'de-consume' a couple of handfuls of the black stuff! As for gifts, we requested no presents, just everyone's presence as the day really is all about just celebrating the milestone of this amazing past year with our local support group. We couldn't have asked for a prettier day given the winter blast just two days before! We were able to keep the windows and doors open so everyone could come in and out as they pleased while a music playlist we created filled the background. All in all, the three of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and from the photo booth pics, it seems that everyone else did as well!
