Fall has Arrived!

I'm thrilled to report that the temperature has fallen out of the 90's just in time for the autumn festivities to begin. Naturally this means we had to pull out our fall decorations, light the pumpkin scented candles, dawn our skeleton jammies, read our trick or treating books, consume pumpkin cookies, and of course partake in seasonal beverages from the coffee shops (salted caramel mocha). I do love this time of year, but really, who doesn't? And who knows, we may even get around to carving our pumpkins and dressing Augie up in costume this year!

Anniversary Weekend

We enjoyed a nice, relaxing yet productive, anniversary weekend at home. There was a lot of playing lounging, and shopping as always, but there was a fair bit of fun too. Since August has recently decided that we should all be waking up at 5:00 am, we figured that we have no choice but to embrace this new routine. So on Sunday, we brewed an extra early cup of coffee, laced up our shoes, and went for a brisk run around the lake. Once home, Kevin cooked up a delicious breakfast spread enjoyed by all. We quickly realized that August was feeling better as he decided to eat as much as the two of us! After a bit of a nap, we packed a picnic, loaded up the car, and drove out to Marble Falls for some family fun at the Pumpkin Patch. But of course, we took so many photos that the trip has a post all of it's own. All in all, it was a wonderful weekend spent with my two loves!

Punkin Hunting 2.0

The highlight of our anniversary weekend was the Sunday trip out to Marble Falls to visit the pumpkin patch at Sweet Berry Farm. I read several great reviews of the farm last year, but we could never find the time to make it out there. But seeing that we have a rambunctious toddler on our hands this year, we knew we needed to go take a look. Though it was a bit hot for fall, and a pretty popular destination on this particular day, we had a wonderful time checking out all of the activities and attractions at the farm. There is certainly no lack of entertainment. Spread throughout the property there are corn mazes, hay rides, scarecrow stuffing, face painting, flower picking, horse rides, pumpkin painting, and train rides. The nice thing for us is that since Augie is still so young, he merely enjoyed opening his stride on the wide open plain, people watching, animal gawking, and of course pumpkin hunting. But I'm sure that next year we will join the throngs waiting in line., because yes, we will definitely make plans to be back next year.

happy 'lil pumpkin hunter!

Peanut Festival

A couple of weekends ago, we made the short trip down to Kevin's home town for their annual Peanut Festival. It's kind of a big deal for the whole town, with coronation ceremonies, a parade, a carnival, street dances, etc. Since Kevin is a former festival king himself,we felt the time was right to introduce his heir to the festivities. The theme changes every year, and this festival's royalty was known as the 'Court of the Magical, Mystical Universe'. Not exactly sure what that has to do with peanuts, but it was fun time none the less. We went to Kevin's mom's work to view the parade on Saturday morning. August was pretty impressed with the cheerleaders, the bands, and the fire trucks, but wasn't so thrilled with everything else. Though later that night we would learn that he was on the verge of a 6 day stomach virus, so that could have played a part in his 'grumpiness'.
