Birthday Celebration

For the first time in his few short years, we decided to keep August's birthday festivities subdued this year. Due to the fact that we weren't exactly sure what or whom our schedule was going to entail, along with his difficulty of playing well with others at the moment, we figured it was best to skip out on a traditional party. Thankfully between the balloons, cake, candle, and presents, the little guy didn't seem to miss any bigger celebration one bit. 

Friday morning, he was greeted with the birthday banner, a big bouquet of balloons, and his big gift of a 'little toy house' from my parents and ourselves. After a low-key breakfast of oatmeal and Merry Christmas Charlie Brown, it was off to preschool against his will. While he was adamant that he didn't want to go, and therefor ended up not receiving the best behavioral report, he still managed to enjoy a little celebration of cupcakes and singing at school. Once his Papa arrived home from work Friday evening, we sang our birthday song, blew out a candle, partook in a cupcake, and opened a few presents from us and my sister's sweet family. Shortly thereafter, Kevin's mom showed up to spend the weekend with us, and of course was bearing a couple of more gifts for the spoiled little man.

Saturday we woke up and attended gymnastics as usual, and then headed downtown to play at the Children's Museum, enjoy lunch, and happened upon an impromptu Mardi Gras parade. All in all we had quite an enjoyable weekend full of lots of relaxed playing time. I think his year of '3' is off to a great start if I do say so myself.

Three Years

Hard to believe that our sweet Augie Knox is three today! The past few years have most definitely been the best of my life. I knew that a baby would change our lives, but I had no idea how much this little guy would steal our hearts and take over our world. While we're definitely entering into a challenging stage of development, it is still such a joy to witness this little life blossom before our eyes. When he's not testing the outer most reaches of our limits, he's so full of giggles and love. Countless times a day we are bombarded with bear hugs and kisses, snuggles, the thoughtful question "are you happy, mommy?", and his favorite phrase..."best ever". He's developed quite a funny little sense of humor and imagination, and at times seems quite clever and sarcastic beyond his age. Our most recent favorite is when he doesn't want to do something, he ALWAYS answers, "maybe later, after nap time", no matter what time of day it is.  We are so blessed to have him in our lives, not a day goes by that I don't count our biggest blessing.

You know that time when you bring a helium balloon home from the grocery store, and your mom refuses to detach it from your favorite inflatable pal for fears that it will immediately take off for the vaulted ceiling? Well apparently it's very frustrating...

Life Lately

This little blog space has been a bit quiet lately, mainly because life around our place hasn't been. We've been quite pre-occupied with cleaning, sorting, trying to get our ducks in a row, unsuccessfully coordinating social dates, creating and planning fun projects, and tying up as many loose ends as possible. In addition, Kevin has had some big work meetings, but thankfully my mom came down for a helpful weeklong visit. Don't be fooled though, we haven't been too busy to enjoy this amazing spring like weather that the region has blessed with lately. Though we could all do without these nasty allergies that has accompanied the heat...they're taking their toll on all of us!


In the meantime, here's a little of what's going on in Augie's world...
