This holiday season I really wanted to make an interactive advent calendar for August. He's at a really fun stage where he is trying so hard to grasp the concept of all of the different holidays. The more we discuss and educate him about the traditions, the more exciting the season becomes for all of us!
I knew that I wanted a simple calendar with an emphasis on various activities, as opposed to giving him small gifts or candy everyday. So when I came across this fabulous diy calendar, I knew exactly what I was going to do. Though originally planned to be much simpler, I realized that I needed to spruce it up if I was going to be working for the attention of a two year old. So with the addition of a little candy striped paint job, happy knit creatures from Target, and a little bakers twine, the project was complete. I'm really happy with the way it turned out, and love that August can see it from his spot at the table. He proudly reads off the numbers on all of the tags and names of the animals. As for whether he understands the concept of a daily activity yet, the jury is still out on that one. Maybe when I'm a bit more consistent in my motivation and timing every day, he'll realize what's going on. Either way we're certainly having a lot of fun leading up to Christmas this year!
