Our Little Family Christmas (celebration #3)

Once all of our family fun was over in Dallas, we packed everything up and made the nice, relaxing drive home. We still needed to celebrate our own little family Christmas, but we needed to get busy on some projects first. And with our continuous scapegoat/mantra of the season goes, 'he doesn't really know what's going on anyway', we knew we had as long as we needed.

Many moons ago I purchased a wooden kitchen playset for August, but I knew that it would need to be customized per our aesthetic. A couple of months ago I decided that he would be the perfect age for it at Christmas, so I set that as my goal. But as life goes, other projects and responsibilities kept getting in the way. We told ourselves that we had to do our celebration before the New Year, so I finally got to work on my little project. Also along the way, I came across a post on pinterest that had me itching to create another fun work space for our little guy. So after all of the supplies were gathered, and caffeine consumed, Kevin and I worked until both Christmas surprises were done. I think that I can easily say that we couldn't be happier with the outcome, and Augie seems to really be enjoying them too.

What did we get each other you ask? We exchanged a couple of small, thoughtful gifts, but we're not really big on giving each other elaborate gifts, for any occasion, including Christmas. We're more the type that will just save up and make big purchases throughout the year as needed. There's something strange about being a working adult, yet still creating a list for people to buy you things. Don't get me wrong, we're incredibly grateful for all of the gifts that we receive from our very generous families, but it still feels odd to be a mature grown up, and expect other people to give you things. Besides, after spending several Christmases with nieces and nephews, and now with August, you begin to see how magical it truly is for the kids. And you just want it to be so perfect for them.

We actually have a few more gifts wrapped up for August to open. But since he's been generously over-gifted by all of our loving families, we think those can hold off for a while. Besides we have to be true to our mantra 'he doesn't really know what's going on anyway'.

And since we've been home, there's been a little work for me, and not much for cleaning and organizing around the house. But there's been a ton of playing, snuggling, and overall enjoying our life as a little family.

We hope that everyone enjoyed their holiday season with the ones that they love as much as we did.
