Getting Kind of Crafty

When Kevin and I got married, his grandmother gifted us with an amazing sewing machine. While I've always marveled at it's intimidating technology and sleek project potential, I've never worked up the courage to sit down and get familiar with it. Don't get me wrong, it's received it's fair amount of usage over the years. Every time I buy a pair of pants my dear husband sits down to display his mad hemming skills. And thanks again to Kevin and to my mom, our fine little machine put in quite a few hours getting Augie's nursery all dressed up for his arrival. But, I've always envied the fact that I couldn't just sit down and produce random projects as they pop into my head. So, a few months ago I decided to take action and look into a local sewing class. Thankfully I found a willing partner in crime, albeit a much more talented and experienced partner, in my friend Sarah. So this past Sunday morning we woke up way too early, loaded up on coffee, and made our way over to the Stitch Lab for a 4 hour long crash-course. Though quite intimidating at first, the session ended up being great fun and tremendously encouraging. I am now actually familiar with our sewing machine and it's proper lingo, I have proof that I can actually create a functional piece (a lined tote bag!), and most excitedly, I am motivated to crank out some more projects. Now if only I could find the time to get practicing before I lose my fledgling skills...
